Want to change your life? Set a goal – and stick to it

Extreme athlete, Hong Kong-based veterinarian and all-round great guy David Gething went from middle-aged overweight party animal to the winner of the World Marathon Challenge in a few short – but very tough! – years.

To misquote Mao, every journey – even one of this magnitude – starts with a single step. David’s first step was to set himself a goal: first, to run 1km without stopping to walk; then to run 5kms; then to beat his personal best over the same distance, and so on. Before long, he had dropped more than 35kg and was winning competitions.

Here he talks to Seven’s The Daily Edition about his World Marathon Challenge – that’s seven marathons on seven continents in seven days – win, setting two world records in the process.

David’s book Relentless is onsale now.

Meet the Aussie who completed 7 marathons across 7 continents in 7 days
